Choosing the Right Wire Deck
Depth Matches Your Upright
Wire deck depth should match your upright depth. Quick-ship depths are 24″, 30″, 36″, 42″, 48″, 60″, and 72″, with custom sizes available on request.
Step Beam Compatibility
Standard wire decks are designed for step beams (typically a 1-5/8″ step). Beams without a step should use Flared Wire Decks instead.
Match Beam Capacity
Use a wire deck with the same or higher capacity than your pallet rack beam, so the deck can safely carry the load even if a pallet doesn’t sit perfectly on the beam.
Width Options
Standard widths are 46″, 52″, and 58″ — the exact width available depends on the depth you select.
How Wire Decks Fit
A standard wire deck rests on the step part of the beam, while the rest of the decking rests on top of the beam. The deck drops over the top of the beam and is held securely in place by edging — no tools, bolts, or fasteners needed for a standard installation.

Wire Decking Buying Guide
- 1Match Your Beam Type — most standard step beams (1-5/8″ step) use standard channel wire decks; box and structural beams without a step use Flared Channel wire decks instead.
- 2Match Your Pallet Type — most wire mesh decks are designed for evenly distributed loads, not point loads. If your pallets are point-load type, consider interlock decking or bar grating instead.
- 3Depth Matches Upright Depth — standard quick-ship depths are 24″, 30″, 36″, 42″, 48″, 60″, and 72″.
- 4Width — standard widths are 46″, 52″, and 58″ (rarely 70″).

Calculating Channel Length
For a standard step-beam wire deck, the real formula is:
Channel length = (Upright Depth − 4″) + 1/4″ to 3/4″
Example: for a 42″ deep upright: 42″ − 4″ = 38″, plus 1/4″ to 3/4″ clearance — giving a channel length in the 38.25″ to 38.75″ range.
Wire Decking vs. Solid or Wood Decking
More light through — the mesh pattern allows operators to more easily read labels or tags.
Faster fire response — in the event of fire, wire decking reduces the time to activate the sprinkler system, and water passes through easily, reducing overall damage.
Lower cost — wire decking is less expensive than solid metal or wood decking.
